Dear Deann

I'm here in Irvine in my mother's house. I tried to call you by phone this evening, but nobody answered. Doesn’t matter, tomorrow I'll try again. Just to let you know, I'm planning to get to your home on Sunday around three o'clock. I remind you that on Monday, I'll begin my class at nine o’ clock. If you want to call me back my cell number is 217 602 1546 and my mother's number is 949 823 1856, her name is Esther.
I wish  you and your family a Happy New Year!

Best regards,
Priscila

I'M IN USA

I came to USA and now I’m at my mother’s house. It’s great!!! If I’d say that I have the real opportunity to speak in English would be a big lie.  My mother, my stepfather, my daughter ... all speak for me.Yesterday I watched a movie  “L'Auberge Espagnole”  spoken in French, Spanish, and in English e and I asked to place the subtitle in English. As for the movie, I loved, it’s talk about students learning a second language and their lifes in a strange country, in Barcelona. An interesting thing to tell, was seeing the arrangements that my brain does to make contact with three different languages which I know well or ill. It’s was interesting to hear tree different languages and understand the history and have fun. If you are interested in the movie take the hint, it's worth!

The first answer from DeAnn

Priscila,

Thank you for your email and introduction.  I am looking forward to meeting you, as well. It sounds as though you are a very motivated and inpired individual!

Yes, the weather here in San Diego is cold right now, as it is winter. But I know you will adjust shortly to it.  Compared to where I used to live up north, this is warm!

Thank you for the offer to bring us something from Brazil, but I don't know the first thing to ask you to bring.  So thank you, anyway.

Have a safe trip and we will see you soon!

Regards,

DeAnn Dyer

My first talk with the hostfamily

Hello Deann

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Ana Priscila Griner, but you may call me Priscila or just Pri. I'm Brazilian and I am 54 years old. I work an interesting school for little kids and teens in Natal where I serve as educational principal. I'm currently studying at master’s degree at Universit in Brazil, for this reason I intend to improve my English level. Therefore I would like to study for four weeks in foreign language training for the IPSA: Worldwide Consortium of Universities, Colleges and Language Schools. More few days I will arrive to Irvine where my mother and fatherstep live.
Here in Brazil it’s summer now and it's very hot. I confess,  I’m a little bit afraid about the cold weather. How is the weather in San Diego?
I look forward to meeting you and your family and if you want something in particular from Brazil, I  travel just on December 24th .
Best Regards,Priscila

worries (1)

This is the last week in Brasil before the trip. More few days I’ll be there in USA, using my English. I must buy coffee, some gifts, some dollars?!, and I don’t know already if I have clothes enough. What I know about ? It’s cold.  I worried about my big toe inflamed.   I've taken antibiotics yet the finger is good.  I think I began to be nervous.

ABOUT ME (2)

Today I talked with my daughter, Advá, about this blog being. She said it’s cool and she will love to write a comment, but she failed *.* Ok, she tried. Two days ago, I told to my mother about the hostfamily in San Diego and she said that at the first day of my study English she will take me until there straight from Irvine, where she lives. After that I felt like a child. I confess, I feel good :-)

ABOUT LEARNING ENGLISH (3)

Weird! When I am alone, far from the computer, I think about the blog and I have some ideas to write and to post. It’s nice, but not  efficient. It happens like that: I’m driving and I begin to talk with myself in English, alone. And now, when I could to write really something for the bIog, I don’t know anymore what to do, nothing comes to my mind,  what to do about? Oh, now I remember : )  I received the name and adress from my new family in San Diego. The commute from the homestay to school is about 30~35 minutes. It has children at home: Andrew (16 years old), Danielle (13 years old) and Clinton (12 yars old). They like surfing, sports and music. It's cool, probily it's a nice family with a dog and with a lot of people to pratice my charmless English O.o

ABOUT THE ENGLISH COURSE (1)

Today I received by e-mail an answer from my contact in San Diego, Dr. Alex. He accepted my application than I asked him a few questions about the accommodation in San Diego. Let’s go to see ( for the elaboration of those questions I used the google translator and  Mogui, my daughter, for help.

Hello Dr. Alex

I would like to thank you for your availability and ask you a few questions, mainly about the accommodations. How far is the host family's house to the school? It`s made kind of a screen of the student and the family for a better match? How to get to my destination, if I am coming from Irvine? What is the best way/transportation? There`re places to eat (affordable price), close to the house and to the school? Do I need to bring my own towel, blanket, sheets? What extra advice would you give to a student with my profile?
About the expenses of the course, I will check what is the easiest way of doing it and I will contact you soon to let you know when and how I will be paying for it.
Sincerely,
Priscilla (Ana)

ABOUT LEARNING ENGLISH (2)

More 20 days I'll be in USA. First of all, I'll visit my mother in Irvine, and in January, 2th I will move to SAN DIEGO, to study in intensive English class: http://www.studyabroadinternational.com/USA/California/SD/USA_CA_San_Diego_dates_and_fees.html#intensive I don't mind which level they might introduce me. When I write in English , I guess I thinking in English, but a feel myself in a strait jacket. I want use  popular terms, to feel free, but  I lack savvy in the language. Do you understand what I want to say? I am thinking to read another blog, a common blog about futilities, maybe it could help!
